How Human Design Changed My Life, Business, and Motherhood
May 19, 2025
When I first came across Human Design, it felt like someone handed me a permission slip to just be myself. Not the version I thought I had to be. Not the version shaped by productivity culture or what the world told me motherhood or business should look like.
I’d already explored astrology, personality tools like the Enneagram and Myers-Briggs, and loved them. But Human Design hit differently. It explained things I didn’t have language for. Why I felt so exhausted doing things that seemed effortless for others. Why certain parts of motherhood felt off, like I was trying to squeeze myself into a mold that didn’t fit.
In this post, I want to share a simple introduction to Human Design, walk you through the five energy types, and let you in on how it’s shaped the way I parent, run my business, and take care of myself.
What is Human Design?
Human Design is a system that combines astrology, the chakra system, the I Ching, the Kabbalah, and quantum physics. I know that sounds intense, but stay with me. At the core, it’s a way to understand how your energy is designed to move through the world. It helps you see how you make decisions, where you’re most gifted, and how to stop fighting your natural rhythm.
It’s not about fixing yourself or becoming a new version of you. It’s about learning how you already work and giving yourself full permission to live from that place.
If you’re curious about your own chart, you can look it up for free at myhumandesign.com. You’ll just need your birth date, exact time, and place.
The Five Energy Types
Here’s a quick breakdown of the five Human Design types:
Generators
You bring life-force energy into the world. You’re here to do what lights you up and respond to what excites you. When you’re aligned, you feel lit up and energized. When you’re not, frustration usually shows up.
Manifesting Generators
You’re quick, multi-passionate, and always moving. You thrive when you follow what excites you, and you're not meant to do just one thing. You move fast and change direction often, and that’s part of your magic.
Projectors
This is me. Projectors aren’t here to grind all day. We see systems, patterns, and the bigger picture. Our energy is designed to guide others, not do all the doing. Rest is non-negotiable for clarity and success.
Manifestors
You’re here to start things. To lead, initiate, and create momentum. You work best when you have the freedom to do things your way, without micromanagement or constant input from others.
Reflectors
Only about 1% of the population falls into this type. Reflectors are incredibly sensitive to their environment. You mirror the energy of the people and places around you and have a gift for showing others what’s really going on.
What Human Design Taught Me About Motherhood
Learning my daughters’ types has completely shifted how I parent. I don’t expect them to respond the way I would. I notice their rhythms. I support their energy instead of trying to shape it. It’s helped me let go of so much guilt and comparison. There’s more ease, more curiosity, and a deeper connection.
How It Changed My Business
For years, I was trying to run my business like a Generator. I was pushing, hustling, and constantly producing. But I’m a Projector, and that style just left me burned out. Now, I give myself space. I center my work around insight, rest, and alignment. And the wild thing is… it actually works better. I’m more productive with less output, and I feel like myself again!
Why This Matters
Human Design gave me a language for the parts of myself I used to hide or question. It helped me stop chasing someone else’s version of success and start building a life that feels right. It’s not about labels or boxes. It’s a way to come back home to who you’ve always been.
